Scythe takes place in an alternate history Eastern Europe of the 1920's in the war-torn lands around a mysterious city-state called The Factory, which has since been abandoned, leaving the land open for nearby factions to try and gain dominance. Players explore the map, harvest resources, develop new technologies, and create giant mechs to help defend, or claim, land from their neighbors.
